www.nhtsa.gov - This is the website for the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration.  This branch of the federal government is responsible for setting the minimum safety standards for the tire industry.  NHTSA is also the agency in charge of investigating consumer complaints concerning tire safety and issuing recalls if NHTSA determines that a tire poses an unreasonable risk of harm to consumers.

www.odi.nhtsa.dot.gov - The Office of Defects Investigation is a branch of NHTSA that is responsible for investigating and recalling defective tires. 

www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/standards/FMVSS-Regs/pages/Part571.htm - The Fair Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (Title 49, Chapter V, Part 571 of the Code of Federal Regulations) are the federally-mandated, governmental standards for the automotive industry.  Standards 109, 110, 117, 119, 120, 129, 138, 139, and 574 relate to tires.

www.iihs.org - The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is a private, nonprofit organization that conducts studies and crash tests on vehicles in an effort to minimize deaths and injuries in vehicle accidents.

www.rma.org - The Rubber Manufacturers Association is the national organization for the elastomer products (rubber) industry.

www.us-tra.org - The Tire and Rim Association is the private organization in charge of establishing technical and industry standards for tires, rims, wheels, and valves.

www.cvsn.org - The Commercial Vehicle Solutions Network is a result of the merger of the National Wheel and Rim Association (NWRA) and Commercial Fleet Specialists (CFS) in 2006.  CVSN is the largest after-market parts distributor serving the automotive industry.

www.tireindiustry.org - The Tire Industry Association is an international association that conglomerates those who manufacturer, repairer, supply, sell, service and recycle tires.

www.tiresociety.org - The Tire Society is a non-profit organization based out of Ohio.  The Society’s members are individuals within the tire industry who study the science and technology of tires.

www.insd.uscourts.gov/firestone - This is the website for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.  This Court was responsible for the multi-district litigation involving the Firestone tire recall in 2000.

www.autosafety.org - The Center for Auto Safety was formed by Consumers Union and Ralph Nader in 1970 to track safety issues in the automotive industry.

www.carfax.com - Carfax is an online resource for researching used automobiles by the vehicle identification number (V.I.N.)  prior to purchase.
